Case Study 3

Client;

Unilever- Sociedad Industrial Dominicana, Dominican Republic

Project Details;

A multi phased design and build project completed on behalf of Unilever;

Phase 1;    A temporary -30 deg.C. coldstore for the storage and distribution of ice cream products needed to be installed prior to the construction of the main factory. The store was constructed utilising 175mm polurethane insulated panels to form the walls and ceiling. The floor was insulated and decked out in non slip aluminium tread plate. A purpose designed refrigeration package was installed. Its design catered for 100% standby capacity.

Phase 2;    A full turnkey design and build package comprising of two -30 deg.C. coldstores totalling in excess of 80,000 cubic feet. The cold store chambers were constructed to an identical specification to Phase 1, with the exception of the floor slab. Here a traditional reinforced concrete slab, insulation and heater system was adopted. Airlock, refrigerated vehicle loading facilities, unloading facilities and staff amenities were incorporated within a purpose built steel portal framed structure. All civil works were carried out by local contractors, working under direct supervision from ourselves, in full accordance with our structural design requirements. The structural requirements for the project were to meet the strict requirements of siesmic design. As part of the same package loading dock equipment, pallet racking and fork lift truck's were supplied to complement our designs.

Phase 3;    Incorporated the design and construction of a 176,500 cubic feet capacity chillstore operating at +12 deg.C. The store was specifically designed for the storage and distribution of margarine products and as such included palletisation areas and loading bay facilities.

Phase 4;    Design and installation of a full turn-key facility for the palletisation and storage of canned oil products direct from the production line. The equipment installed included fully automated palletising and stretch wrapping machines with integral pallet conveyors, for the transfer of pallets from the palletiser to semi automatic crane. The crane operated along a guidance track picking completed pallets from production and feeding into live storage pallet racking facilities storing a total of 900 pallets.
